Healthy Fall Smoothie Series – Part 1: Oatmeal Pear Smoothie

The leaves changing from green to hues of yellow and burnt orange. Warm scents of vanilla, cinnamon, cider and pumpkin spice everything…fall is officially here!

I love my greens but there’s nothing like the comfort of something warm and sweet on a cool autumn day. So rather than heading for my greens I decided to pear (pun intended) some of my fall favorites together for a delicious and nutritious vegan breakfast smoothie. This combo will have you feeling warm and cozy in no time!

What you’ll need:

1 large Bosc pear seeded and chopped

1/2 cup almond milk (I prefer homemade but store bought is fine also)

1/4 cup rolled oats (gluten free)
1/2 tablespoon maple agave syrup

1 tablespoons almond butter

1/2 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger

Pinch of vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg. Use 1/4 cup of vanilla yogurt rather than vanilla extract for a non-vegan option.

Combine all the ingredients in a blender. Blend thoroughly, pour into a glass and sprinkle with cinnamon. I use a Vitamix blender because it purées very well.

I was pretty full after drinking this smoothie. Rolled oats have plenty of fiber to keep your tummy satasfied until snack/lunch time. You can pair with a banana on the side or a slice whole grain toast for additional nutrition. This smoothie is the perfect guilt-free treat for those with a major sweet tooth like myself.
