The body has tricked us into believing that it’s not connected to anyone else and that it solely exists as a one man show. This couldn’t be further from the truth. When a coworker or loved on is having a bad day or is excited about something we tend to empathize and take on their emotions at that moment. Empathizing with others can quickly turn into a breeding ground for negative energy if done incorrectly. If you’re highly sensitive to others and your surroundings, here’s a list of things you can do to protect your energy and heart all in one:
Energy is Money.
You’ve probably heard the saying “time is money”. Well so is your energy! Who has time to stay in a crappy mood all day? We all have a purpose on this earth. Our ability to reach our full potential is at its highest when we feel our greatest. Energy spent on negativity and emotionally draining situations is energy (or money) poorly spent that you can never get back. Try to be more conscious of who, where and what you’re spending your energy on. Once you do that you will easily be able to walk away from unwanted energies and keep your psyche in a positive space.
Be Accountable for You.
You are in charge of your energy and who you permit into your space as well. When you are accountable for your space, you are setting boundaries as to who can enter your space as well as what you choose to accept. Recite affirmations daily to further commit yourself to allowing only positive energy.
This is one of my personal favorites: “Today I choose to allow positive energy into my life. I will only allow what sustains or increases this positive energy to remain around me”. Affirmations and thoughts like these can have a a profoundly positive affect on our mind and day.
Say No, It’s Ok.
So many of us have a problem saying no to others. I know I’m guilty of this 100%. As a former people pleaser, I would be afraid of upsetting someone if I didn’t say yes. I would end up taking on more than I could handle and crumbling. Those types of relationships tend to become one way and even toxic. They drain us of all of our positive energy and hinder our potential to be great and do right by others who reciprocate. Set boundaries with others and know your limits. Helping others by helping yourself allows you to have much more of a positive impact on those around you.
Limit Social Media Access.
We’ve all been there. We load our social media & emails 1st thing in the morning. It tends to be the last thing we do at night as well. I am 100% guilty of this, especially as a blogger and writer. Stop the madness! Our society has become so addicted to our phones and Internet that we are robbing those who are providing us with positive energy of quality time, including ourselves. When we are engrossed in our phones and Internet, we cannot reciprocate that positive energy to those same individuals. This can lead to feelings of tension and resentment hence, negative energy. Take those 1st precious minutes of your day to meditate, pray or do yoga. Think of it as a way to prep your mind for the day. The same token goes for bed time as well! Your mind needs a moment to decompress from the day’s events. Set specific times for checking your social media platforms and emails so that it doesn’t interfere with your daily routine nor the people around you.
There is so much we have to be aware of consciously. Don’t create a breeding ground for negative energy. By setting boundaries, taking accountability and treating your energy like gold, you are creating a solid foundation for your mind, body and heart. You’ll not only have a positive impact on yourself but also on those around you.
