Pregnancy is a beautiful journey but between our diets, doctors appointments, prepping the home, who can keep up? One thing we tend to overlook are our beauty products. Many of the beauty products we use may have unsafe ingredients that have a susceptibility to leak into our bloodstream and enter the placenta of our growing babies. Here are 6 pregnancy safe beauty products to consider using while pregnant.
Pre-pregnancy your skin was flawless. All of a sudden, you’re able to play connect the dots on your face. Sound like you? Yea, me too! Raging hormones, prenatal vitamins and a whole host of other factors pay a role into acne during pregnancy.
I love my DIY acne/problem skin regimen (<–click the link for more info) but sometimes I’m not in the mood for it..lol. If you feel the same way at times, two cleansers I recommend are Pacifica Kale Detox Deep Cleaning Face Wash & Acure Brightening Facial Scrub.
Both products are vegan, cruelty free & use certified organic fair trade ingredients all while helping you to maintain a healthy glow. I love how both keep my combination/oily skin balanced and smooth. I must add that both products are also very effective at removing makeup! I usually use the Acure Brightening Facial Scrub first then cleanse with the Pacifica Kale Detox Deep Cleaning Face Wash. I then follow-up with a lightweight moisturizer like argan oil. Healthy skin while using pregnancy safe products is always a win win for both mom and baby!
Soaps & Body Washes
When it comes to body washes & soaps, I absolutely LOVE Dr. Bronner’s Hemp Peppermint Pure Castile Soap! My entire family (parents, siblings, husband, son, etc) use it! It’s my go-to for removing makeup and daily cleansing. I’ve also used this soap to clean & disinfect household items like dishes and even our shower/tub! You can even use this soap as a detergent for clothes or a deep cleansing shampoo! Dr. Bronner’s products contain all certified organic & fair-trade ingredients such as coconut, jojoba, hemp and olive oils. They’re also cruelty free which means no animal testing a performed while making their products. Dr. Bronner’s soaps are completely pregnancy safe and come in a variety of scents and formulas. They even have a formula for babies! I also love the fact they have travel size amounts making it very convenient for me to pack in my hospital bag for delivery.
Another product I absolutely love is Shea Moisture’s Olive & Green Tea Bubble Bath & Body Wash.
Some of the ingredients in this moisturizing body wash include avocado oil, honeysuckle, shea and olive oils. I bought this wash back in August and we still have about half left. Both my son and husband use it as well. We use it as a bubble bath for our son and he loves it! This wash smells amazing and leaves our skin feeling very clean and supple without an overpowering scent. The last thing you want is a body wash that doesn’t leave you feeling clean and & makes you feel like you threw on perfume in the shower. Tip: This Shea Moisture body wash is a little thick so be careful when applying not to use too much. If you use too much it will take a while to rinse off.
Dry itchy skin during pregnancy can be a real pain. I definitely experienced more dry skin during my 1st pregnancy than this one. I’ve always been a fan using of sweet almond oil but I needed something a bit stronger. This time around I found relief with two pregnancy safe body lotions. Alba Botanica Very Emollient Body Lotion for severely dry skin & Shea Moisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Body Lotion .Alba’s body lotion is formulated with 100% vegetarian ingredients like avocado oil, grape seed oil, cucumber, shea butter and aloe. These ingredients make this lotion extremely moisturizing and non-pore clogging as well. If you have sensitive dry skin like myself then this is a body lotion to put on your list to try.
Shea Moisture’s Argan Oil & Raw Shea Body Lotion is formulated with natural and certified organic ingredients such as:
• Shea Butter which deeply moisturizes and repairs skin with vitamins and essential fatty acids.
• Argan Oil: naturally high in Vitamin E, keeps skin soft and smooth.
• Frankincense & Myrrh Extract: natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial which aids in healing dry cracked skin.
Shea Moisture’s lotion worked extremely well during the winter months of my pregnancy. I live in New York and the winters are pretty brutal here just to give you an idea. Tip: I usually exfoliate and moisturize with either product on wet skin to maximize hydration.
