3 Essential Self Care Tips for Moms

3 Essential Self Care Tips for Moms

Baby is crying, sink is full of dishes, you still haven’t eaten and you don’t remember if you’ve brushed your teeth or not? Sound like you? Now that I’m a mom of two little ones my days are much more hectic. Nursing one baby while prepping dinner for the other has given me a run for my money! I’ve been making more of an effort to practice self care in order to stay centered amid the chaos and joys of motherhood. Here are 3 self care tips that every mom should practice daily.

Relax, We’re Not Perfect.

I remember wanting to keep everything clean and organized once my oldest son arrived. Reality set in real fast as it became harder to keep up with everything. I would get frustrated and overwhelmed very quickly. I’m definitely guilty of distracting my oldest son with television in an effort to get stuff done (pre baby#2). I wanted to be “the perfect mom”.

Don’t compare yourself to moms on social media either. It’s ego suicide..lol.

I eventually learned to cut myself some slack because I’m not perfect. It’s my job as their mom to teach my kids to love themselves because of their imperfections. Try spending time with your kids. Relax and be present with your baby(ies). They’re only this young for so long.

Exercise.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you know that I’ve re-committed myself to regular exercise (aside from daily yoga). I know the last thing on mama’s mind is fitness while trying to juggle life. I’m here to tell you that you NEED to make it a priority.

Working out is an awesome stress reliever and energy booster. It’s also helpful in kick starting your weight loss/management goals! Exercise before your family gets their day started. You can also try working out after everyone has gone to sleep. Either way you’ll have your “me time” uninterrupted which is essential for effective self care. Nursing mamas: Be mindful of when your baby cluster feeds. Time your workout session to be done after you’ve fed your L.O for the last time & put them back to sleep. You’ll at least have 2-3 hours before they may wake again to be fed. It’s the perfect time to squeeze in a workout, shower and maybe even a few z’s!

Spend Time Alone.

Spending time alone is a great way to refocus and recharge your brain. It’s also a rare commodity as a parent regardless of how many kids join your crew. I’m not ashamed to admit that I spend time alone the following ways: in my car while in the parking lot of the grocery store & the bathroom (not an easy task).self care, self care tips, self care moms, mindfulness, health, wellness, mental health, postpartum health I know I’m not the only one..lol. Wherever or however you do it is fine. Just make sure you’re getting that time to yourself to rejuvenate.

Final Thoughts

The beauty of self care is that it doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive. Self care is literally taking the time and making the effort to tend to yourself. As moms, we want to take care of everyone around us.self care, self care tips, self care moms, mindfulness, health, wellness, mental health, postpartum health What happens when we pour everything out of our cups? We can’t possibly pour into another cup without refilling our own. Be sure to check in with yourself and your needs. It’s not selfish. It’s actually the most selfless thing you can do for yourself and your family.
