I Took My Non Vegan Family To A Vegan Diner (Champs Diner Review)

Hey Guys! As a vegan, I always run into two major issues when dining out. First is extremely limited options. Second is usually lack of taste with the options given. I usually end up loading up on carbs or eating a bland salad which is NO FUN. To avoid this, I’ve been eying a few 100% or mostly vegan eateries throughout New York that I can suggest when dining out with loved ones. My family and I paid a visit to Champs Diner in Brooklyn last weekend & here is our review!Champs Diner Review, Champs Diner, Vegan Food Review, NYC Vegan Restaurants, Vegan Family Friendly Restaurants, plant based diner, plant based restaurants, nyc eats, vegan eats, essence eats, healthy hair to toe, gluten free, soy free restaurants, food blogger, health blogger, holistic nutrition,Champs Diner Review, Champs Diner, Vegan Food Review, NYC Vegan Restaurants, Vegan Family Friendly Restaurants, plant based diner, plant based restaurants, nyc eats, vegan eats, essence eats, healthy hair to toe, gluten free, soy free restaurants, food blogger, health blogger, holistic nutrition, vegan donuts, dunwell donuts

Customer Service

We experienced awesome hospitality from Champs Diner. Our wait time for a table was 15 minutes which wasn’t bad at all. You know how most diners give kids 2 or 3 of the “not so cool” crayons and a sheet to color? Well Champs gave our oldest son a 24ct box of Crayola crayons with 6 huge coloring sheets to pass time! Y’all know this is a huge deal! Crayola crayons blow those lame, faded, break in 0.2 seconds crayons out the water any day!..lol. Champs Diner is definitely very family oriented, kid friendly and BABY friendly. Our server checked on us enough times and was extremely attentive. She also gave us great tips and recommendations when ordering our food. This can be beneficial to 1st timers to vegan cuisine.

The Food

Taste? Delicious. Option? Endless! Champs Diner had menu choices that would even the biggest carnivore couldn’t turn down! FYI Their burgers & steaks are seitan based. I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak which came with a side order of salad or fries (I opted for the greens). Between the crunchy yet tender filling and chipotle mayo, my belly and taste buds were in heaven!Champs Diner Review, Champs Diner, Vegan Food Review, NYC Vegan Restaurants, Vegan Family Friendly Restaurants, plant based diner, plant based restaurants, nyc eats, vegan eats, essence eats, healthy hair to toe, gluten free, soy free restaurants, food blogger, health blogger, holistic nutrition, Champs Diner Review, Champs Diner, Vegan Food Review, NYC Vegan Restaurants, Vegan Family Friendly Restaurants, plant based diner, plant based restaurants, nyc eats, vegan eats, essence eats, healthy hair to toe, gluten free, soy free restaurants, food blogger, health blogger, holistic nutrition, vegan donuts, dunwell donuts, vegan mozarella sticks My appetizer was their vegan mozzarella sticks which were MY FAVORITE!!! I have been seeing Champs Diner post them on their Instagram page for months so I was dying to try them!

My husband ordered a classic burger and fries. He said it tasted great but he was shocked a small to how full he felt afterwards. Our oldest son had their vegan mac and cheese. He ended up eating off Dad’s plate..lol. My only con was that the mac and cheese was a tad bland. It would’ve use a bit more garlic, pepper and a pinch of sea salt. We ended up taking the mac and cheese to go. I ate it next day and seasoned it my usual way. The taste was much better. We…ahem, I took their last 4 donuts home. They were DIVINE!Champs Diner Review, Champs Diner, Vegan Food Review, NYC Vegan Restaurants, Vegan Family Friendly Restaurants, plant based diner, plant based restaurants, nyc eats, vegan eats, essence eats, healthy hair to toe, gluten free, soy free restaurants, food blogger, health blogger, holistic nutrition, vegan donuts, dunwell donuts Overall, the food was delicious and we were very satisfied! We didn’t end up eating dinner that night because we were so full!..lol.

Price

My husband and I seem to differ in opinion. I found Champs Diner prices to be reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. My husband feels the prices were a bit higher than traditional diner prices but nothing too crazy. To give you a clear picture, our bill came to about $67, not including tip. We ordered 3 entre├Ęs, 1 appetizer, 2 beverages and 4 dessert items. Since all of their food is 100% vegan I felt this was a very reasonable bill. Just keep in mind that Champs Diner only accepts cash

Location

Since we live on Long Island, the first thing we kept in mind was location, location, location! Traveling with a newborn & preschooler on top of us being hungry (Mom and Dad) meant we needed to get there quickly. Although in Williamsburg, we were shocked to find Champs Diner is fairly close to us!

Without traffic the drive would’ve only taken us 35 minutes! The restaurant is also accessible by public transportation. Slow downs put our drive at about an hour but it was definitely an easy find!

Final Thoughts

Our experience at Champs Diner was overall positive! The atmosphere was very laid back and family oriented. The food was very tasty with plenty of options to choose from. The only thing I would advise is if you are driving be prepared to search for parking. We were lucky enough to score a spot right in front of the diner. We spotted a few L & J subway stations within close proximity to the diner as well. Now that Champs is off my bucket list where should I go next? We are definitely much more open try more vegan spots as a family this summer.

Have you ever eaten at a fully vegan establishment? Have you ever done so with a non-vegan loved one?

Until next time!
