Hey loves! I’ve been slowly swapping out my makeup for toxin free plant-based makeup. I can’t lie, it hasn’t been an easy process. I’ve been wanting to make the change beucause I value my health more than anything. Many of these chemicals have been linked to hormone disruption, cancer and even harmful to reproductive health and baby’s development. Unfortunately, most companies either aren’t inclusive of shades for women of color or completely miss the mark with shades available. I’ve finally found a brand that not only can account for my unique hues, undertones and complexion as a whole, but is inclusive of ALL shades and tones!
Back Story..There’s Levels To This
I originally decided to stick with NARS for my face and cheeks until I could find a brand that was right for my skin tone with clean ingredients that I could trust. I had pretty much given up on trying anything new because of my terrible experiences with other brands and color matching. I’ve literally dropped $100+ on other brands that would claim to match my skin tone, only to find out their shades did the exact opposite. I’ve even gone back and purchased additional products in hopes that mixing shades would give me the perfect color and coverage with no success. Sound like you?
The Brand & How I Found Them
Au Naturale is a plant-based non-toxic cosmetic line that I found through my Back To Basics Box last month.
I reviewed their lip stain and fell in love! I didn’t realize that in my box came a swatch card for their face makeup. The shades available were abundant!
I contacted Back To Basics Box on their official IG page. I told them what brand/shade of products I used & and they were able to color match me in less than 5 minutes! I was excited but nervous at the same time. I kept asking myself, did I just shell out $83 to be disappointed again? Well, judgement day came. I got my package and cracked that baby open right away!
What I Bought & How It Held Up
Au Naturale Completely Covered Creme Concealer
This concealer comes in stick form. I’ve only used liquid concealers so I was a bit worried. I wasn’t sure if it would have the same coverage effect as well as match my complexion. Au Naturale’s Completely Covered Concealer in Baja was an exact dupe to my previous NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Medium Dark 4 (Hazlenut). I found that I didn’t need as much concealer as I did in the past. It did go on a smidgen lighter than my previous concealer from NARS at 1st which did scared me..lol. Then I remembered, I am probably darker than usual during the summer months…lol. Once I applied the foundation it all blended well together and very smooth!
Au Naturale’s Completely Covered Concealer is formulated without animal bi-products, synthetic preservatives, nano particles, gluten, parabens, fillers, dyes or toxins, 100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan.
Ingredients: Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed Oil), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed Oil), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla Wax), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed Oil), Organic Lavandula Officinalis (Lavender Oil), Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca Root Starch), Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Micas, Zinc Oxide, Silica, Copernica Cerifera (Carnuba Wax). May Contain: Ultramarine Blue, Chromium Oxide Green.
Au Naturale Semi-Matte Powder Foundation
This Semi-Matte Powder Foundation in Cali is an exact dupe to my NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Macao. Y’all, this foundation was mind-blowing. It’s a powder in a pump bottle that covers like a liquid foundation. I’m no makeup guru but I’ve never seen a product like this before. It’s much less messier than liquid! I hate when I apply liquid foundation and a drop gets on my clothes..especially when I’m heading out somewhere! Also, The coverage was FLAWLESS!!!! It was as if an airbrush had been applied to my face to remove any imperfections. The plus side was that I still looked like myself…just a glowing version!
Au Naturale Semi-Matte Powder Foundation is formulated without gluten, parabens, fillers, animal by-products, synthetic preservatives or toxins. It’s also 100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan.
Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxides, Micas, Silica, Copernica Cerifera (Carnuba) Wax May Contain: Ultramarine Blue, Chromium Oxide Green
Au Naturale Pure Powder Bronzer
Au Naturale Pure Powder Bronzer in Kissed gave me the perfect final touch! The bronzer comes packaged the same way as the Semi-Matte Powder Foundation. I just applied to my cheekbones and was good to go! It gave me an airbrushed sunkissed glow which I love! I have NEVER gotten this effect from any bronzer I’ve ever worn. Hands down, one of my favorite plant-based makeup products!
Au Naturale’s Pure Powder Bronzer is formulated without animal bi-products, synthetic preservatives, nano particles, gluten, parabens, fillers, dyes or toxins, 100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan.
Ingredients: Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Micas.
Normally I would spend close to $130 on conealer, foundation and bronzer. I figured that wasn’t bad since I don’t wear makeup everyday and my look is very minimal. Au Naturale through Back To Basics cost me $83 even.
Normally I would have this heavy (slightly itchy) feeling on my face after wearing makeup for a few hours. Au Naturale left my skin feeling so fresh and natural that I kept forgetting I was wearing makeup! Removal was also easy and quick. No breakouts occurred after use as well. Winning all over the damn place!
I will be sticking with this brand but I’m open to trying other non-toxic plant-based makeup brands as long as they’re inclusive of all shades!
Thank you all so much for the love on my IG post and IG stories regarding this Au Naturale Cosmetics! I’m beyond excited to finally use plant-based makeup! What I love even more though is sharing my love for clean beauty and holistic beauty tips with you all! As a black woman in the green beauty space, it’s important for me to find & highlight brands that are ethical & inclusive of all. I really hope this helps all of you!
