Let’s take it back for a moment. I grew up in the 80s and 90s before food allergies and tree nut bans in schools became the norm. Dunkin Donuts chocolate munchkins and homemade cupcakes (chocolate of course) were my FAVE! Classroom birthday parties were LIT with munchkins and cupcakes! Didn’t you live for these days? I remember smelling the yumminess all day in the classroom, anxiously watching the clock, waiting to inhale a piece of heaven. Well, these No Bake Dark Chocolate Hemp Energy Bites will give you all the nostalgia of 1st grade without the guilt of excessive calories!
Y’all, these vegan energy bites are LEGIT, LIT and everything else in between! The ingredients are wholesome, clean, affordable and most importantly DELICIOUS! There was no need for additional sugar either! I used dates as my base which is a natural sweetener.
Here’s the good for you breakdown:
Dates: Nature’s caramel. Sweet and rich while providing energy through vitamins & minerals like zinc, potassium, magnesium, and iron!
Almond Butter: extra protein boost and full of vitamin E, manganese, and biotin.
Walnuts: excellent source of protein and high in omega 3 fatty acids.
Cacao Powder: rich chocolate flavor as well as phytonutrients, magnesium, and iron. Phytonutrients combat free radicals in your body & help you to absorb key vitamins.
Hemp Seeds: add a boost of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, iron, magnesium, and zinc. They’re also the perfect complete protein since they contain all 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids.
These vegan energy bites are fudgy, moist, super healthy, full of protein and extremely easy to make! You can enjoy this healthy dessert with tea or as an afternoon pick me up. I just love having the option versus traditional empty calorie sweets that provide no nutritional value.
*Recipe adapted from Minimalist Baker. Recipe has been tweaked for my preference. Energy bites contain tree nuts. Be mindful of food allergies before serving.
